Populacije morskih mekušaca smanjile su se proteklih desetljeća u dijelovima istočnog Mediterana jer je zatopljavanje mora stvorilo uvjete koji onemogućavaju život 'domaćih' vrsta, objavili su u srijedu znanstvenici.
Vode uz obale Izraela među najtoplijima su na Mediteranu i već su se zagrijale tri stupnja Celzija u protekla četiri desetljeća i ljeti je temperatura mora redovito iznad 30 stupnjeva Celzija.
Međunarodni tim znanstvenika, koji su rezultate objavili u časopisu Proceedings of Royal Society B, istraživali su učinak toplijih mora na lokalne populacije morskih mekušaca, kao i na dolazak invazivnih vrsta iz Crvenog mora kroz Sueski kanal.
Paolo Albano, s odjela za paleontologiju Bečkog sveučilišta, prvo je htio usporediti lokalne i novonaseljene vrste uz izraelsku obalu. No, brzo je shvatio razmjere nestanka lokalnih populacija mekušaca.
"Moje je očekivanje bilo da ću otkriti mediteranski ekosustav s tim pridošlicama", kazao je za AFP.
"No, nakon prvog urona odmah sam shvatio da je problem drugi - nestanak domaćih mediteranskih vrsta, čak i onih najbrojnijih koje možete pronaći svagdje na Mediteranu".
Lokalni nestanak vrsta
Albano i njegovi kolege usporedili su populacije mekušaca s više od 100 lokacija morskog dna s ranijim podacima za te lokacije i otkrili su da je samo 12 posto mekušaca, koji su oduvijek bili na tim lokacijama, još na tim plitkim sedimentima.
Na kamenim grebenima ta je brojka bila tek pet posto.
Tim je procijenio da 60 posto preostale populacije proučavanih mekušaca ne dostiže reproduktivnu veličinu što ukazuje na opasnost "demokrafskog potonuća" nekih vrsta.
Albano je kazao da je sveukupni trend, iako bi i drugi faktori mogli igrati ulogu u nestanku vrsta među kojima i zagađenje i naseljavanje novih vrsta, vjerojatno izazvan zatopljavanjem mora.
"Tolerancija na temperaturne promjene je ono što je važno i većina vrsta koje žive u Mediteranu su na granicama svoje izdržljivosti na području istočnog Mediterana", kaže on.
Za razliku od 'domaćih' mekušaca tropske populacije koje stižu u Mediteran kroz Sueski kanal bujaju.
Ta zamjena vrsta izaziva početak stvaranja novog ekosustava, kažu autori, i veliki gubitak domaćih vrsta teško će se moći ispraviti.
Albano kaže da je istočni Mediteran "obrazac onoga što se događa u morskim ekosustavima zbog globalnog zagrijavanja - vrste reagiraju na zagrijavanje seljenjem i u nekim slučajevima to znači iskorjenjivanje domaćih vrsta".

Populacije morskih mekušaca smanjile su se proteklih desetljeća u dijelovima istočnog Mediterana jer je zatopljavanje mora stvorilo uvjete koji onemogućavaju život 'domaćih' vrsta, objavili su u srijedu znanstvenici.
Vode uz obale Izraela među najtoplijima su na Mediteranu i već su se zagrijale tri stupnja Celzija u protekla četiri desetljeća i ljeti je temperatura mora redovito iznad 30 stupnjeva Celzija.
Međunarodni tim znanstvenika, koji su rezultate objavili u časopisu Proceedings of Royal Society B, istraživali su učinak toplijih mora na lokalne populacije morskih mekušaca, kao i na dolazak invazivnih vrsta iz Crvenog mora kroz Sueski kanal.
Paolo Albano, s odjela za paleontologiju Bečkog sveučilišta, prvo je htio usporediti lokalne i novonaseljene vrste uz izraelsku obalu. No, brzo je shvatio razmjere nestanka lokalnih populacija mekušaca.
"Moje je očekivanje bilo da ću otkriti mediteranski ekosustav s tim pridošlicama", kazao je za AFP.
"No, nakon prvog urona odmah sam shvatio da je problem drugi - nestanak domaćih mediteranskih vrsta, čak i onih najbrojnijih koje možete pronaći svagdje na Mediteranu".
Lokalni nestanak vrsta
Albano i njegovi kolege usporedili su populacije mekušaca s više od 100 lokacija morskog dna s ranijim podacima za te lokacije i otkrili su da je samo 12 posto mekušaca, koji su oduvijek bili na tim lokacijama, još na tim plitkim sedimentima.
Na kamenim grebenima ta je brojka bila tek pet posto.
Tim je procijenio da 60 posto preostale populacije proučavanih mekušaca ne dostiže reproduktivnu veličinu što ukazuje na opasnost "demokrafskog potonuća" nekih vrsta.
Albano je kazao da je sveukupni trend, iako bi i drugi faktori mogli igrati ulogu u nestanku vrsta među kojima i zagađenje i naseljavanje novih vrsta, vjerojatno izazvan zatopljavanjem mora.
"Tolerancija na temperaturne promjene je ono što je važno i većina vrsta koje žive u Mediteranu su na granicama svoje izdržljivosti na području istočnog Mediterana", kaže on.

Ta zamjena vrsta izaziva početak stvaranja novog ekosustava, kažu autori, i veliki gubitak domaćih vrsta teško će se moći ispraviti.
Albano kaže da je istočni Mediteran "obrazac onoga što se događa u morskim ekosustavima zbog globalnog zagrijavanja - vrste reagiraju na zagrijavanje seljenjem i u nekim slučajevima to znači iskorjenjivanje domaćih vrsta".
