Mayflower 400, prvi inteligentni brod bez posade čeka u luci Plymouth na jugozapadu Engleske naredbu za put preko Atlantika kamo će isploviti 15. svibnja.

Trimaran dug 15 metara i težak 9 tona može donositi samostalne odluke i potpuno autonomno ploviti, a prekriven je solarnim panelima i na svom putu može proučavati okoliš, analizirati prisutnost plastike u vodama te pratiti morske sisavce.

Ocean "je najsnažnija sila planeta koja regulira našu klimu", kaže Brett Phaneuf, utemeljitelj udruge ProMare i arhitekt projekta. 
Više od 80 posto oceana neistraženo je zbog toga što su golemi i zbog opasnosti, napominje. 

"Brod bez posade omogućuje stvarno proširenje znanstvenih studija", kaže Rosie Lickorish, stručnjakinja za nove tehnologije u IBM-u koji se pridružio projektu početom prije četiri godine.

Kako su se u projekt uključile druge tvrtke i "stotine" ljudi od Indije do Sjedinjenih Država, preko Japana i Švicarske, riječ je o "svjetskom" pothvatu. Da nije bilo tih partnera udruga ProMare morala bi prikupiti "desetke milijuna dolara", umjesto nešto manje od milijun, rekao je Phaneruf iz udruge koja se obvezala prikupljene informacije besplatno ustupiti. 

Trimaran, koji treba isploviti 15. svibnja, ovisno o meteorološkim uvjetima, trebao bi za tri tjedna uploviti u drugi Plymouth, u Massachusettsu putanjom koju je prešao originalni "Mayflower" prije 400 godina, 1620., kada je stotinjak "hodočasnika", engleskih vjerskih disidenata isplovilo za Novi svijet.

Isplovljavanje Mayflowera 400 odgodila je pandemija, no kako brod nema posade nitko "se neće razboljeti", kažu organizatori.

Autonomni brod

Gradnja trimarana koji je potpuno robotiziran, od kormila do dizelskog agregata koji upotpunjuje solarni sustav, trajala je godinu dana.

Razvoj "virtualnog kapetana", umjetne inteligencije koja je počela učiti identificirati zapreke u moru analizirajući tisuće fotografija, potrajala je dosta dugo.

Programeri su također podučavali "Mayflower 400" kako da izbjegne sudare. 

Brod je zatim uvježbavan u moru, primao je naredbe što su dobre, a što loše radnje, što je opasno, a što nije, kaže Ollie Thompson, inženjer robotike. 

Zatim se prešlo "na razinu na kojoj je brod učio korigirati vlastite radnje", a to znači "misliti" svojim informatičkim sustavom na način na koji ljudski mozak obrađuje informacije.

"On i dalje uči, koristeći se svojim "očima" - sofisticiranim sustavom šest kamera, odnosno svojim "ušima", a to je radar, objašnjava Thompson.

Međutim, zakoni na snazi nešto kasne za tehnikom pa "Mayflower 400" još nije mogao isploviti u "nemirno more, s velikim valovima, vjetrom, kišom", odnosno izložiti se "najtežem scenariju, silovitoj oluji", žali Meirwen Jenking-Rees.

Umjesto toga, trimaran se uvježbavao na valove visoke 50 metara zahvaljujući simulatoru.

Koristit će se svojom umjetnom inteligencijom za znanstvena istraživanja. Tako jer na primjer "obučen zahvaljujući tisućama satima audiosnimaka ... da otkrije morske sisavce, da ih prepozna i prikupi podatke o njihovoj raspodjeli i populaciji. 

Također će analizirati kemijski sastav vode, mjeriti razinu mora i uzimati uzorke radi istraživanja prisutnosti mikroplastike u moru, a riječ je o prikupljanju podataka kakvo već desetljećima obavljaju roboti u svemiru.

Iako je brod autonoman, ekipa stručnjaka danonoćno će ga pratiti iz Engleske, spremna intervenirati na daljinu u slučaju opasnosti.

Mayflower 400, prvi inteligentni brod bez posade čeka u luci Plymouth na jugozapadu Engleske naredbu za put preko Atlantika kamo će isploviti 15. svibnja.

Trimaran dug 15 metara i težak 9 tona može donositi samostalne odluke i potpuno autonomno ploviti, a prekriven je solarnim panelima i na svom putu može proučavati okoliš, analizirati prisutnost plastike u vodama te pratiti morske sisavce.

Ocean "je najsnažnija sila planeta koja regulira našu klimu", kaže Brett Phaneuf, utemeljitelj udruge ProMare i arhitekt projekta. 
Više od 80 posto oceana neistraženo je zbog toga što su golemi i zbog opasnosti, napominje. 

"Brod bez posade omogućuje stvarno proširenje znanstvenih studija", kaže Rosie Lickorish, stručnjakinja za nove tehnologije u IBM-u koji se pridružio projektu početom prije četiri godine.

Kako su se u projekt uključile druge tvrtke i "stotine" ljudi od Indije do Sjedinjenih Država, preko Japana i Švicarske, riječ je o "svjetskom" pothvatu. Da nije bilo tih partnera udruga ProMare morala bi prikupiti "desetke milijuna dolara", umjesto nešto manje od milijun, rekao je Phaneruf iz udruge koja se obvezala prikupljene informacije besplatno ustupiti. 

Trimaran, koji treba isploviti 15. svibnja, ovisno o meteorološkim uvjetima, trebao bi za tri tjedna uploviti u drugi Plymouth, u Massachusettsu putanjom koju je prešao originalni "Mayflower" prije 400 godina, 1620., kada je stotinjak "hodočasnika", engleskih vjerskih disidenata isplovilo za Novi svijet.

Isplovljavanje Mayflowera 400 odgodila je pandemija, no kako brod nema posade nitko "se neće razboljeti", kažu organizatori.

Autonomni brod

Gradnja trimarana koji je potpuno robotiziran, od kormila do dizelskog agregata koji upotpunjuje solarni sustav, trajala je godinu dana.

Razvoj "virtualnog kapetana", umjetne inteligencije koja je počela učiti identificirati zapreke u moru analizirajući tisuće fotografija, potrajala je dosta dugo.

Programeri su također podučavali "Mayflower 400" kako da izbjegne sudare. 

Brod je zatim uvježbavan u moru, primao je naredbe što su dobre, a što loše radnje, što je opasno, a što nije, kaže Ollie Thompson, inženjer robotike. 

Zatim se prešlo "na razinu na kojoj je brod učio korigirati vlastite radnje", a to znači "misliti" svojim informatičkim sustavom na način na koji ljudski mozak obrađuje informacije.

"On i dalje uči, koristeći se svojim "očima" - sofisticiranim sustavom šest kamera, odnosno svojim "ušima", a to je radar, objašnjava Thompson.

Međutim, zakoni na snazi nešto kasne za tehnikom pa "Mayflower 400" još nije mogao isploviti u "nemirno more, s velikim valovima, vjetrom, kišom", odnosno izložiti se "najtežem scenariju, silovitoj oluji", žali Meirwen Jenking-Rees.

Umjesto toga, trimaran se uvježbavao na valove visoke 50 metara zahvaljujući simulatoru.

Koristit će se svojom umjetnom inteligencijom za znanstvena istraživanja. Tako jer na primjer "obučen zahvaljujući tisućama satima audiosnimaka ... da otkrije morske sisavce, da ih prepozna i prikupi podatke o njihovoj raspodjeli i populaciji. 

Također će analizirati kemijski sastav vode, mjeriti razinu mora i uzimati uzorke radi istraživanja prisutnosti mikroplastike u moru, a riječ je o prikupljanju podataka kakvo već desetljećima obavljaju roboti u svemiru.

Iako je brod autonoman, ekipa stručnjaka danonoćno će ga pratiti iz Engleske, spremna intervenirati na daljinu u slučaju opasnosti.
