Unatoč užasima u Gazi, rat protiv Ukrajine ima daleko veći značaj za buduću sigurnost i prosperitet Europe.

- Jasno je da mogućnost nuklearnog rata i Putinove snage koje se šire prema zapadu zahtijevaju našu najveću pozornost. Da, napadima nam prijete i bliskoistočne terorističke skupine, ali oni su ograničeni i nemaju sposobnost uključiti se u onu vrstu tiranskog pokoravanja koju bi Putin jako volio isprobati u Ukrajini. I nemaju sposobnost poslati smrtonosne strateške nuklearne bojeve glave - piše za The Telegraph stručnjak za kemijsko oružje, pukovnik Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Ipak, ukrajinski predsjednik Volodimir Zelenski sve je ljući jer je Zapad trenutačno ometen sukobima na drugim frontovima. Nakon 20 mjeseci neprekidnog ratovanja, nedavne smjene generala i sigurnosnih dužnosnika pokazuju duboku frustraciju ratnim stanjem u Ukrajini. Zaliha zapadnog oružja i streljiva sve je manje i očito je kako se one sad preusmjeravaju na istočni Mediteran. A izbori u Sjedinjenim američkim Državama i Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, koji se održavaju 2024., mogli bi biti kobni za nastavak naoružavanja Ukrajine.

- U međuvremenu, očito je da se Rusija okreće prema totalnom ratu. Njihovi vojni izdaci ove godine lako bi mogli prijeći 10 posto BDP-a. Kremlj je voljan žrtvovati svoje mladiće i baciti ih u stroj za mljevenje mesa u Donbasu, dok ukrajinski vojnici na fronti imaju prosječnu starost od više od 40 godina. Osim toga, Putin se ne mora bojati da će izgubiti izbore, za njega tu nema apsolutno nikakvog rizika. Ova potpuna predanost mogla bi preokrenuti ravnotežu - i Zelenski to jako dobro zna - kaže Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.

Esej "Moderno pozicijsko ratovanje i kako u njemu pobijediti" generala Valerija Zalužnog, vrhovnog zapovjednika oružanih snaga Ukrajine, vrlo iskreno i realno procjenjuje trenutačno stanje rata, ali i upozorava Zapad na činjenicu da je Rusija još daleko od toga da bude poražena.

Rusija je u 20 mjeseci ovoga rata navodno izgubila više od 300.000 vojnika. No Putin je, piše Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, u Kremlju "izoliran od političkih posljedica ovog sveopćeg uništavanja ruske budućnosti".

Pozicijsko ratovanje omogućuje Rusima da u rovove šalju jedva obučene vojnike koji samo trebaju držati pušku i pucati. Ukrajina, s druge strane, nema sigurna područja za obuku svojih novaka.

- Zelenski stalno traži novo oružje i ponavlja apel za njim. Godine 1917., u rovovima Prvog svjetskog rata, tenk je bio odlučujući faktor. Kao bivši zapovjednik tenka, procjenjujem da se tenkovska akcija kod Cambraija 20. studenoga 1917. ne razlikuje od tenkovske akcije 2023. u Donbasu. To će prekinuti zastoj ako ispunimo obveze koje Zelenski traži, osobito ako uz to Ukrajincima osiguramo i dio koji nedostaje u modernim borbenim zrakoplovima.

No prije svega, mi na Zapadu moramo shvatiti da će događaji u Europi mnogo više oblikovati našu sudbinu od onih na istočnom Mediteranu. Moramo pružiti sve što Ukrajini treba za pobjedu. U suprotnom, postoji stvarna mogućnost da oni izgube rat i da se na Europu spustiti tamni oblak kakav nismo vidjeli od 1939. - zaključuje Hamish de Bretton-Gordon za The Telegraph.

Unatoč užasima u Gazi, rat protiv Ukrajine ima daleko veći značaj za buduću sigurnost i prosperitet Europe.

- Jasno je da mogućnost nuklearnog rata i Putinove snage koje se šire prema zapadu zahtijevaju našu najveću pozornost. Da, napadima nam prijete i bliskoistočne terorističke skupine, ali oni su ograničeni i nemaju sposobnost uključiti se u onu vrstu tiranskog pokoravanja koju bi Putin jako volio isprobati u Ukrajini. I nemaju sposobnost poslati smrtonosne strateške nuklearne bojeve glave - piše za The Telegraph stručnjak za kemijsko oružje, pukovnik Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Ipak, ukrajinski predsjednik Volodimir Zelenski sve je ljući jer je Zapad trenutačno ometen sukobima na drugim frontovima. Nakon 20 mjeseci neprekidnog ratovanja, nedavne smjene generala i sigurnosnih dužnosnika pokazuju duboku frustraciju ratnim stanjem u Ukrajini. Zaliha zapadnog oružja i streljiva sve je manje i očito je kako se one sad preusmjeravaju na istočni Mediteran. A izbori u Sjedinjenim američkim Državama i Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, koji se održavaju 2024., mogli bi biti kobni za nastavak naoružavanja Ukrajine.

- U međuvremenu, očito je da se Rusija okreće prema totalnom ratu. Njihovi vojni izdaci ove godine lako bi mogli prijeći 10 posto BDP-a. Kremlj je voljan žrtvovati svoje mladiće i baciti ih u stroj za mljevenje mesa u Donbasu, dok ukrajinski vojnici na fronti imaju prosječnu starost od više od 40 godina. Rusija je u 20 mjeseci ovoga rata navodno izgubila više od 300.000 vojnika. No Putin je, piše Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, u Kremlju "izoliran od političkih posljedica ovog sveopćeg uništavanja ruske budućnosti".

Pozicijsko ratovanje omogućuje Rusima da u rovove šalju jedva obučene vojnike koji samo trebaju držati pušku i pucati. Ukrajina, s druge strane, nema sigurna područja za obuku svojih novaka.

- Zelenski stalno traži novo oružje i ponavlja apel za njim. Godine 1917., u rovovima Prvog svjetskog rata, tenk je bio odlučujući faktor. Kao bivši zapovjednik tenka, procjenjujem da se tenkovska akcija kod Cambraija 20. studenoga 1917. ne razlikuje od tenkovske akcije 2023. u Donbasu. To će prekinuti zastoj ako ispunimo obveze koje Zelenski traži, osobito ako uz to Ukrajincima osiguramo i dio koji nedostaje u modernim borbenim zrakoplovima.

No prije svega, mi na Zapadu moramo shvatiti da će događaji u Europi mnogo više oblikovati našu sudbinu od onih na istočnom Mediteranu. Moramo pružiti sve što Ukrajini treba za pobjedu.
