Tanker pun kemikalija tone uz obalu Šri Lanke dok svijet strahuje da bi se ta nesreća mogla pretvoriti u ekološku katastrofu, prenosi BBC u srijedu. 

Tanker X-Press Pearl, registriran u Singapuru, gorio je gotovo dva tjedna prije nego je požar ugašen ovaj tjedan. 

Ako brod potone, u more bi se mogle izliti stotine tona goriva i uništiti tamošnji morski život.

Mornarice Šri Lanke i Indije proteklih dana zajednički su radili na gašenju vatre, a sada na sprječavanju lomljenja i potonuća broda, no operaciju im otežavaju nemirno more i monsunski vjetrovi. 

Glasnogovornik mornarice Šri Lanke Indika Silva za BBC je rekao kako "spasioci pokušavaju povući brod prema dubokom moru prije nego što potone kako bi se minimiziralo onečišćenje mora“.  

Ekologinja Ajantha Perera upozorila je da mogućnost tonuća predstavlja "najgori scenarij za okoliš“. 

"Sa svim opasnim teretom, dušičnom kiselinom i drugim spojevima, kao i gorivom broda, potonuće će dovesti do uništenja cijelog morskog dna“, dodala je.

Obalno područje uz grad Negombo već je zagađeno naftom i drugim zagađenjem. 

Ministarstvo ribarstva Šri Lanke objavilo je da su na snagu stupile izvanredne mjere kako bi se zaštitila laguna Negomba i okolna područja.

Tanker pun kemikalija tone uz obalu Šri Lanke dok svijet strahuje da bi se ta nesreća mogla pretvoriti u ekološku katastrofu, prenosi BBC u srijedu. 

Tanker X-Press Pearl, registriran u Singapuru, gorio je gotovo dva tjedna prije nego je požar ugašen ovaj tjedan. 

Ako brod potone, u more bi se mogle izliti stotine tona goriva i uništiti tamošnji morski život.

Mornarice Šri Lanke i Indije proteklih dana zajednički su radili na gašenju vatre, a sada na sprječavanju lomljenja i potonuća broda, no operaciju im otežavaju nemirno more i monsunski vjetrovi. 

Glasnogovornik mornarice Šri Lanke Indika Silva za BBC je rekao kako "spasioci pokušavaju povući brod prema dubokom moru prije nego što potone kako bi se minimiziralo onečišćenje mora“.  

Ekologinja Ajantha Perera upozorila je da mogućnost tonuća predstavlja "najgori scenarij za okoliš“. 

"Sa svim opasnim teretom, dušičnom kiselinom i drugim spojevima, kao i gorivom broda, potonuće će dovesti do uništenja cijelog morskog dna“, dodala je.

Obalno područje uz grad Negombo već je zagađeno naftom i drugim zagađenjem. 

Ministarstvo ribarstva Šri Lanke objavilo je da su na snagu stupile izvanredne mjere kako bi se zaštitila laguna Negomba i okolna područja.
