Jedna nova mutacija, potvrđena na području južne Velike Britanije, širi se brže nego dosadašnja verzija COVID-a 19, rekao je to prije nekoliko dana britanski ministar zdravstva Matt Hancock. Reistrirano je 1.000 osoba inficiranih mutiranim koronavirusom, a broj se povećava.
No, nije ništa neobično da se otkrije mutacija virusa, piše Deutsche Welle. U Kini, zemlji iz koje se počela širiti pandemija, već je prije pola godine počela cirkulirati nova varijanta uzročnika bolesti COVID 19. Tijekom ljeta se iz Španjolske počela širiti jedna druga verzija, koja je relativno brzo uočena i u ostatku Europe. Virusi stalno mutiraju, a te mutacije većinom nemaju nikakve ili minimalne (dodatne) učinke.
Kako tijelo reagira na mutacije?
U normalnim okolnostima je ljudsko tijelo u stanju zaštiti se samo od virusa. Organizam producira antitijela koja ga onda brane od virusa i čine imunim protiv uzročnika bolesti.
No, kada je uzročnik već mutirao, a antitijela koja posjeduje „programirana” za obranu od starije verzije virusa, onda ta antitijela imaju znatno manji učinak.
To je razlog zbog kojeg redovito imamo hunjavicu. Naše je tijelo doduše već ranije produciralo antitijela protiv hunjavice, ali naš organizam još nije uspio proizvesti odgovarajuća nova antitijela za mutaciju virusa, odnosno uzročnika bolesti.
Razlog za paniku ipak ne postoji, jer proces mutacije sam po sebi ne znači automatski da je virus postao i opasniji. Neke mutacije u konačnici znaju i zlatno oslabiti virus.
Kako dolazi do mutacija?
Kada ljudsko tijelo razvije antitijela protiv virusa i tako spriječi izbijanje bolesti, virus mora promijeniti svoju „čahuru" – kako ga antitijela ne bi prepoznala. Da bi uopće mogao preživjeti, virus mora dakle mijenjati svoje vanjske proteine i razvijati nove „ogranke".
A kako bi se proširili, virusi koriste ćelije svog domaćina. Kada virusi napadnu te ćelije, oni iz svoje „utrobe” ubacuju svoje genetske informacije u napadnute ćelije. Tako ustvari ćelije ljudskog organizma reproduciraju milijune kopija tog virusa. Ali kod svake takve reprodukcije događaju se i male greške u procesu „kopiranja", a svaka ta greška mijenja genetski kod virusa – on dakle mutira.
Zašto se nova varijanta brže širi?
Virus koji je odgovoran za izbijanje COVID-19, radi se o SARS-CoV-2, je (baš kao i u slučaju svih koronavirusa) takozvani RNA-virus sa stupnjem mutacije od gotovo jedne mutacije – mjesečno.
Te različite varijante objašnjavaju i zbog čega uzročnik neke bolesti u određenim regijama svijeta prouzroči val infekcija različitog intenziteta – odnosno zašto različiti ljudi na vrlo različit način reagiraju na infekcije.
Nova verzija registrirana u Velikoj Britaniji otkriva više mutacija "spike proteina” (šiljasti izdanci) koronavirusa. Njemu nedostaju dvije aminokiseline, to je vjerojatno razlog zbog kojeg se virus može lakše i brže širiti.
Taj proces u kojem je virus ostao bez aminokiselina naziva se delacija. Već tijekom ljeta je slična delacija uočena i na istoku Azije. Tamo je mutirana varijanta SARS-CoV-2 prouzročila blaže infekcije, zato što je koronavirus očito u međuvremenu oslabio.
Velika Britanija je prije nekoliko dana, kao prva zapadnoeuropska zemlja, počela s kampanjom masovnog cijepljenja. Nova mutacija ipak neće to cjepivo učiniti nedjelotvornim. Cjepiva protiv koronavirusa su tako koncipirana da oni „kodiraju" informacije za spike proteine tako da oni stimuliraju naš imunološki sustav – usprkos mutaciji.
Srećom je potrebno ipak mało više od samo par mutacija da bi neki virus u toj mjeri promijenio svoje proteine da oni budu u stanju „zaobići" našu imunološku zaštitu.
Ipak, na temelju iskustva s gripom mi znamo da primjerice virusi gripe vrlo brzo mutiraju i da se cjepivo za svaku novu sezonu gripe mora iznova „prilagoditi" – kako bi uopće ostalo djelotvorno.
Slijedom toga i cjepiva protiv koronavirusa će se morati i ubuduće „prilagođavati". Informacije prikupljene tijekom krize, odnosno novi proizvodni kapaciteti će i ubuduće osigurati brzu opskrbu cjepivom po povoljnoj cijeni, piše DW.

Jedna nova mutacija, potvrđena na području južne Velike Britanije, širi se brže nego dosadašnja verzija COVID-a 19, rekao je to prije nekoliko dana britanski ministar zdravstva Matt Hancock. Reistrirano je 1.000 osoba inficiranih mutiranim koronavirusom, a broj se povećava.
No, nije ništa neobično da se otkrije mutacija virusa, piše Deutsche Welle. U Kini, zemlji iz koje se počela širiti pandemija, već je prije pola godine počela cirkulirati nova varijanta uzročnika bolesti COVID 19. Tijekom ljeta se iz Španjolske počela širiti jedna druga verzija, koja je relativno brzo uočena i u ostatku Europe. Virusi stalno mutiraju, a te mutacije većinom nemaju nikakve ili minimalne (dodatne) učinke.
Kako tijelo reagira na mutacije?
U normalnim okolnostima je ljudsko tijelo u stanju zaštiti se samo od virusa. Organizam producira antitijela koja ga onda brane od virusa i čine imunim protiv uzročnika bolesti.
No, kada je uzročnik već mutirao, a antitijela koja posjeduje „programirana” za obranu od starije verzije virusa, onda ta antitijela imaju znatno manji učinak.
To je razlog zbog kojeg redovito imamo hunjavicu. Naše je tijelo doduše već ranije produciralo antitijela protiv hunjavice, ali naš organizam još nije uspio proizvesti odgovarajuća nova antitijela za mutaciju virusa, odnosno uzročnika bolesti.
Razlog za paniku ipak ne postoji, jer proces mutacije sam po sebi ne znači automatski da je virus postao i opasniji. Neke mutacije u konačnici znaju i zlatno oslabiti virus.
Kako dolazi do mutacija?
Kada ljudsko tijelo razvije antitijela protiv virusa i tako spriječi izbijanje bolesti, virus mora promijeniti svoju „čahuru" – kako ga antitijela ne bi prepoznala. Da bi uopće mogao preživjeti, virus mora dakle mijenjati svoje vanjske proteine i razvijati nove „ogranke".
A kako bi se proširili, virusi koriste ćelije svog domaćina. Kada virusi napadnu te ćelije, oni iz svoje „utrobe” ubacuju svoje genetske informacije u napadnute ćelije. Tako ustvari ćelije ljudskog organizma reproduciraju milijune kopija tog virusa. Ali kod svake takve reprodukcije događaju se i male greške u procesu „kopiranja", a svaka ta greška mijenja genetski kod virusa – on dakle mutira.
Zašto se nova varijanta brže širi?
Virus koji je odgovoran za izbijanje COVID-19, radi se o SARS-CoV-2, je (baš kao i u slučaju svih koronavirusa) takozvani RNA-virus sa stupnjem mutacije od gotovo jedne mutacije – mjesečno.
Te različite varijante objašnjavaju i zbog čega uzročnik neke bolesti u određenim regijama svijeta prouzroči val infekcija različitog intenziteta – odnosno zašto različiti ljudi na vrlo različit način reagiraju na infekcije.
Nova verzija registrirana u Velikoj Britaniji otkriva više mutacija "spike proteina” (šiljasti izdanci) koronavirusa. Njemu nedostaju dvije aminokiseline, to je vjerojatno razlog zbog kojeg se virus može lakše i brže širiti.
Taj proces u kojem je virus ostao bez aminokiselina naziva se delacija. Već tijekom ljeta je slična delacija uočena i na istoku Azije. Tamo je mutirana varijanta SARS-CoV-2 prouzročila blaže infekcije, zato što je koronavirus očito u međuvremenu oslabio.
Velika Britanija je prije nekoliko dana, kao prva zapadnoeuropska zemlja, počela s kampanjom masovnog cijepljenja. Nova mutacija ipak neće to cjepivo učiniti nedjelotvornim. Cjepiva protiv koronavirusa su tako koncipirana da oni „kodiraju" informacije za spike proteine tako da oni stimuliraju naš imunološki sustav – usprkos mutaciji.
Srećom je potrebno ipak mało više od samo par mutacija da bi neki virus u toj mjeri promijenio svoje proteine da oni budu u stanju „zaobići" našu imunološku zaštitu.
Ipak, na temelju iskustva s gripom mi znamo da primjerice virusi gripe vrlo brzo mutiraju i da se cjepivo za svaku novu sezonu gripe mora iznova „prilagoditi" – kako bi uopće ostalo djelotvorno.
Slijedom toga i cjepiva protiv koronavirusa će se morati i ubuduće „prilagođavati". Informacije prikupljene tijekom krize, odnosno novi proizvodni kapaciteti će i ubuduće osigurati brzu opskrbu cjepivom po povoljnoj cijeni, piše DW.
