Mutacije su normalan slijed u životnom ciklusu nekoga virusa i svi njegovi novi sojevi ne moraju biti nužno opasniji po ljude. Neki su blaži, neki opasniji, a neki i neutralni u odnosu na onaj izvorni.

Dio mutacija ne predstavlja značajne promjene, dio mutacija smanjuje učinkovitost virusa, no dio mutacija ga ipak čini evolucijski i biološki efikasnijim, jer ga bolje veže na receptore stanica koje inficira. Takav je soj uspješniji u pronalasku mjesta za svoje umnožavanje, pa značajno povećava šanse svog prodora kroz ljudsku populaciju, te uskoro prijeti postati i dominantna verzija bolesti.

Trenutno je u opticaju čak više od četiri tisuće različitih sojeva koronavirusa, a epidemiologe od svih njih najviše brinu tek četiri.

1. BRITANSKI soj je postao dominantan u većem djelu Velike Britanije i proširio se na više od 50 drugih zemalja, uključujući Hrvatsku. Karakterizira ga povećana prenosivost, veća od 40 posto, što dovodi do povećane incidencije, hospitalizacije i ukupnog pritiska na zdravstveni sustav. Simptomi britanskog soja nešto su drugačiji od onog izvorno wuhanskog, i ostalih njegovih podvarijanti: rjeđi je gubitak mirisa i okusa, dok su kašalj, umor, bol u mišićima i grlobolja dominantni simptomi u ovoj verziji. 

2. JUŽNOAFRIČKI soj je zasad sekvenciran u najmanje 30 zemalja, od SAD-a, Velike Britanije, Slovačke, Grčke pa do Austrije, gdje se proširio po cijeloj zemlji. Hrvatski državljani donijeli su ga također u Lijepu našu sa svojih neodgodivih turističkih pohoda po Zanzibaru i Tanzaniji. Ova varijanta ima 17 mutacijskih promjena u odnosu na wuhanski virus. Prema istraživanjima znanstvenika, južnoafrička verzija Covida-19 ima sposobnost izbjeći protutijela u krvnoj plazmi već oporavljenih pacijenata od ove bolesti, a smanjuje i učinkovitost trenutno dostupnih cjepiva. K tome je i zarazniji, najmanje 1,5 puta, od izvornih varijanti.

3. BRAZILSKI soj je razlogom možda i ponajvećih epidemioloških strahova: predstavlja zlokobnu kombinaciju karakteristika engleske i južnoafričke mutacije. Kod sve tri inačice virusa došlo je do promjene u 'spike' proteinu koji se veže za ljudske stanice, s time da je te promjene brazilski virus najbolje prilagodio svome opstanku. Kristijan Ramadan, profesor molekularne medicine sa Sveučilišta u Oxfordu, nazvao ga je nedavno „supersojem“. Napravio je prije nekoga vremena posve neočekivan kaos u brazilskome gradu Manausu, gdje je zarazio veliki broj ljudi koji su već bili preboljeli koronavirus.

4. NEWYORŠKI soj zasad je od svih navedenih epidemiološki najneistraženiji, no po povećanoj zaraznosti umnogome podsjeća na južnoafričkog „brata“. Postao je dominantan u New Yorku i drugim urbanim dijelovima SAD-a te polako potiskuje ostale, a također ima i znatan potencijal reinfekcije, tj. ponovne zaraze čovjeka koji je već prebolio wuhanski soj. Kako uzrokuje nešto teže simptome bolesti i hospitalizacija, a i najviše se detektira kod starijih osoba, potencijalno je svakome društvu velika prijetnja.

U Hrvatskoj je dosad potvrđeno preko 60 slučajeva oboljelih od britanskog soja koronavirusa, najmanje tri slučaja južnoafričkog, a kod dvije osobe nedavno je detektiran i newyorški soj. U hrvatskim granicama još jedino, barem službeno, nemamo samo brazilski model koronavirusa.

Premda su trenutna cjepiva dizajnirana su prema ranijim verzijama ove bolesti, rezultati zadnjih istraživanja pokazuju da sve raspoložive vakcine barem donekle štite i od novih sojeva, makar u nešto manjem postotku.

Cjepivo Oxford/AstraZeneca dobro štiti od britanskog soja, no znatno manje od južnoafričkog. Zbog toga je Južnoafrička Republika prestala koristiti cjepivo AstraZenece i namjeravaju prodati nabavljene količine. Rani rezultati Pfizera i Moderne sugeriraju da je njihovo cjepivo dovoljno učinkovito protiv južnoafričke inačice, iako imunološki odgovor možda neće biti odveć jak ili dugotrajan. U odnosu na sve sojeve, svakako je bolje primiti bilo kakvo cjepivo, nego nikakvo.

Znanstvenici navode kako će se sva cjepiva redizajnirati u hodu i doraditi prema novim sojevima, ali i onima koji se tek očekuju u budućnosti. Kao i kod virusa gripe koji stalno mutira, sve promjene na koronavirusu mora pratiti permanentni laboratorijski nadzor i adaptacija vakcina.

Mutacije su normalan slijed u životnom ciklusu nekoga virusa i svi njegovi novi sojevi ne moraju biti nužno opasniji po ljude. Neki su blaži, neki opasniji, a neki i neutralni u odnosu na onaj izvorni.

Dio mutacija ne predstavlja značajne promjene, dio mutacija smanjuje učinkovitost virusa, no dio mutacija ga ipak čini evolucijski i biološki efikasnijim, jer ga bolje veže na receptore stanica koje inficira. Takav je soj uspješniji u pronalasku mjesta za svoje umnožavanje, pa značajno povećava šanse svog prodora kroz ljudsku populaciju, te uskoro prijeti postati i dominantna verzija bolesti.

Trenutno je u opticaju čak više od četiri tisuće različitih sojeva koronavirusa, a epidemiologe od svih njih najviše brinu tek četiri.

1. BRITANSKI soj je postao dominantan u većem djelu Velike Britanije i proširio se na više od 50 drugih zemalja, uključujući Hrvatsku. Karakterizira ga povećana prenosivost, veća od 40 posto, što dovodi do povećane incidencije, hospitalizacije i ukupnog pritiska na zdravstveni sustav. Simptomi britanskog soja nešto su drugačiji od onog izvorno wuhanskog, i ostalih njegovih podvarijanti: rjeđi je gubitak mirisa i okusa, dok su kašalj, umor, bol u mišićima i grlobolja dominantni simptomi u ovoj verziji. 

2. JUŽNOAFRIČKI soj je zasad sekvenciran u najmanje 30 zemalja, od SAD-a, Velike Britanije, Slovačke, Grčke pa do Austrije, gdje se proširio po cijeloj zemlji. Hrvatski državljani donijeli su ga također u Lijepu našu sa svojih neodgodivih turističkih pohoda po Zanzibaru i Tanzaniji. Ova varijanta ima 17 mutacijskih promjena u odnosu na wuhanski virus. Prema istraživanjima znanstvenika, južnoafrička verzija Covida-19 ima sposobnost izbjeći protutijela u krvnoj plazmi već oporavljenih pacijenata od ove bolesti, a smanjuje i učinkovitost trenutno dostupnih cjepiva. K tome je i zarazniji, najmanje 1,5 puta, od izvornih varijanti.

3. BRAZILSKI soj je razlogom možda i ponajvećih epidemioloških strahova: predstavlja zlokobnu kombinaciju karakteristika engleske i južnoafričke mutacije. Kod sve tri inačice virusa došlo je do promjene u 'spike' proteinu koji se veže za ljudske stanice, s time da je te promjene brazilski virus najbolje prilagodio svome opstanku. Kristijan Ramadan, profesor molekularne medicine sa Sveučilišta u Oxfordu, nazvao ga je nedavno „supersojem“. Napravio je prije nekoga vremena posve neočekivan kaos u brazilskome gradu Manausu, gdje je zarazio veliki broj ljudi koji su već bili preboljeli koronavirus.

4. NEWYORŠKI soj zasad je od svih navedenih epidemiološki najneistraženiji, no po povećanoj zaraznosti umnogome podsjeća na južnoafričkog „brata“. Postao je dominantan u New Yorku i drugim urbanim dijelovima SAD-a te polako potiskuje ostale, a također ima i znatan potencijal reinfekcije, tj. ponovne zaraze čovjeka koji je već prebolio wuhanski soj. Kako uzrokuje nešto teže simptome bolesti i hospitalizacija, a i najviše se detektira kod starijih osoba, potencijalno je svakome društvu velika prijetnja.

U Hrvatskoj je dosad potvrđeno preko 60 slučajeva oboljelih od britanskog soja koronavirusa, najmanje tri slučaja južnoafričkog, a kod dvije osobe nedavno je detektiran i newyorški soj. U hrvatskim granicama još jedino, barem službeno, nemamo samo brazilski model koronavirusa.

Premda su trenutna cjepiva dizajnirana su prema ranijim verzijama ove bolesti, rezultati zadnjih istraživanja pokazuju da sve raspoložive vakcine barem donekle štite i od novih sojeva, makar u nešto manjem postotku.

Cjepivo Oxford/AstraZeneca dobro štiti od britanskog soja, no znatno manje od južnoafričkog. Zbog toga je Južnoafrička Republika prestala koristiti cjepivo AstraZenece i namjeravaju prodati nabavljene količine. Rani rezultati Pfizera i Moderne sugeriraju da je njihovo cjepivo dovoljno učinkovito protiv južnoafričke inačice, iako imunološki odgovor možda neće biti odveć jak ili dugotrajan. U odnosu na sve sojeve, svakako je bolje primiti bilo kakvo cjepivo, nego nikakvo.

Znanstvenici navode kako će se sva cjepiva redizajnirati u hodu i doraditi prema novim sojevima, ali i onima koji se tek očekuju u budućnosti. Kao i kod virusa gripe koji stalno mutira, sve promjene na koronavirusu mora pratiti permanentni laboratorijski nadzor i adaptacija vakcina.

Mutacije su normalan slijed u životnom ciklusu nekoga virusa i svi njegovi novi sojevi ne moraju biti nužno opasniji po ljude. Neki su blaži, neki opasniji, a neki i neutralni u odnosu na onaj izvorni.

Dio mutacija ne predstavlja značajne promjene, dio mutacija smanjuje učinkovitost virusa, no dio mutacija ga ipak čini evolucijski i biološki efikasnijim, jer ga bolje veže na receptore stanica koje inficira. Takav je soj uspješniji u pronalasku mjesta za svoje umnožavanje, pa značajno povećava šanse svog prodora kroz ljudsku populaciju, te uskoro prijeti postati i dominantna verzija bolesti.

Trenutno je u opticaju čak više od četiri tisuće različitih sojeva koronavirusa, a epidemiologe od svih njih najviše brinu tek četiri.
