Bilo je predviđeno da američki predsjednik Joe Biden sleti u Belfast u utorak navečer. Sudjelovat će u obilježavanju 25 godina od potpisivanja Sporazuma Velikog Petka kojim su prekinuti sukobi unionista (protestanata) i republikanaca (katolika) u toj sastavnici Ujedinjene Kraljevine. Od kasnih 1960-ih godina u Sjevernoj Irskoj živote je izgubilo više od 3600 ljudi.

U srijedu će otići u Republiku Irsku kako bi se povezao s korijenima - Biden je podrijetlom Irac. U postizanju sporazuma posredovala je i američka administracija tadašnjeg predsjednika Billa Clintona koji će tjedan kasnije sa suprugom Hillary stići u Belfast na obilježavanje godišnjice. U pregovorima su sudjelovali irski premijer Bertie Ahern i britanski Tony Blair.

Ponedjeljak nije ponudio ozračje dobrodošlice američkom predsjedniku jer je nekoliko maskiranih osoba napalo u Londonderryju policiju Molotovljevim koktelima i drugim predmetima tijekom parade protiv mirovnog sporazuma. The Belfast Telegraph je u nedjelju objavio da je policija otkrila bombašku zavjeru Nove IRA-e čiji je cilj bio zasjeniti Bidenov posjet.

“Pripadnici Nove IRA-e, paravojne grupe koja se odvojila od Irske republikanske armije, tražili su dijelove za izradu bombe u pograničnom gradu Derryju", rekao je policijski izvor za dnevne novine. Sigurnosne službe u Sjevernoj Irskoj još su krajem ožujka povisile stupanj opasnosti od terorizma sa "znatne" na "ozbiljnu".

U objavi odluke koju je donio MI5 (britanska unutarnja tajna služba), vlada upozorava na "povišen stupanj terorističke aktivnosti", smjerajući na nedavni pokušaj ubojstva policajca. Ova razina opasnosti podrazumijeva postojanje "velike mogućnosti" napada, dodao je u priopćenju britanski ministar za Sjevernu Irsku Chris Heaton-Harris, istaknuvši da javnost treba biti "oprezna", ali ne "bojati se".

Fox News prenosi Bidenovu poruku prosvjednicima “Ne mogu me zaustaviti”, a John Kirby, glasnogovornik Vijeća za nacionalnu sigurnost, dopunio je: “Predsjedniku je više nego ugodno ići na ovo putovanje i vrlo je uzbuđen. Zahvalan je sigurnosnim snagama Sjeverne Irske na obavljenom poslu i nastavku rada na zaštiti svih zajednica".

"Iako mirovni sporazum nije savršen, bolji je od onoga što je bilo, a naša nada sada ide dalje od današnjice, da će stvari postati još bolje i da će sljedećih 25 godina biti još bolje za našu djecu i djecu naše djece”, rekao je za AFP pastor Jack McKee čija je crkva New Life City smještena kod zida na području nekadašnje ničije zemlje koja dijeli dvije zajednice.

Bijela kuća je u najavi istaknula da će jedna od ključnih poruka posjeta biti spremnost Sjedinjenih Država da podrže ogroman ekonomski potencijal Sjeverne Irske na dobrobit svih zajednica. Poruka je ciljana zbog teškoća s kojima se Sjeverna Irska susreće nakon odluke Ujedinjene Kraljevine da napusti članstvo u EU. Sjeverna Irska je, uz Škotsku, bila protiv izlaska. Najveći problem u pregovorima je bilo pitanje očuvanja bezgraničnog aranžmana između dvije Irske a da se istodobno zaštiti jedinstveno tržište EU.

Probritanska Demokratska unionistička stranka (DUP) bojkotira sjevernoirsku vladu više od 13 mjeseci jer se protivi pravilima o trgovini nakon Brexita. Smatraju da ta pravila odvajaju Sjevernu Irsku od Ujedinjene Kraljevine i vode ujedinjenju Irske (irski diplomatski izvori u povjerenju govore da očekuju ujedinjenje najkasnije do kraja ovog desetljeća). Revidirani elementi Sjevernoirskog protokola, nedavno dogovoreni tzv. Windsorski okvir, imaju za cilj ukloniti zabrinutosti unionista, no DUP to zasad odbija: glasao je protiv u britanskom parlamentu, ali protiv su bili i Boris Johnson i Liz Truss, dvoje bivših premijera.

Odmah nakon što je izglasan Brexit u Sjevernoj Irskoj se pojavila zabrinutost da neće pronaći zamjenu za sredstva iz europskih fondova. Bili su u pravu. Fiskalno vijeće Sjeverne Irske objavilo je da će ove godine nedostajati oko 808 milijuna funti za održavanje sustava zbog rasta troškova energije i plaća, oboje potaknuto inflacijom. Vlasti u Belfastu su već ukinule besplatne školske obroke za djecu iz siromašnih porodica: Politico.eu prenosi da je riječ o trećini djece.

DUP je nezadovoljan jer Brexit je ostavio Sjevernu Irsku i dalje podložnom pravilima EU kad je riječ o izvozu dok je roba koja stiže iz Velike Britanije podvrgnuta kontrolama. Povratak granice na otoku bi imao negativne sigurnosne posljedice, ali i ekonomske jer između tri i ćetiri milijarde eura je vrijednost izvoza u Republiku Irsku. Carinska kontrola bi to usporila i smanjila s negativnim utjecajem na zastarjelu strukturu sjevernoirske privrede (60 posto izvoza čine poluproizvodi, mliječni proizvodi, meso i pića).

Irski premijer Leo Varadkar rekao je da planira "intenzivirati" angažman s britanskim premijerom Rishijem Sunakom oko Windsorskog okvira. "Posljednjih nekoliko mjeseci uložili smo veliki trud u postizanje dogovora o revizijama i reformama protokola", rekao je irski premijer dodajući: “To je kulminiralo Windsorskim okvirom, koji je dogovoren tek u proteklih nekoliko tjedana. Za to je bilo potrebno puno angažmana s različitim političkim strankama u Sjevernoj Irskoj, s britanskom vladom, s Europskom komisijom. Jedan od razloga zašto smo to učinili, osim što smo bili sigurni da ćemo izbjeći povratak na tvrdu granicu, bio je taj što bi sporazum potencijalno mogao ponovno otvoriti mogućnost da se DUP vrati u izvršnu vlast.”

Bilo je predviđeno da američki predsjednik Joe Biden sleti u Belfast u utorak navečer. Sudjelovat će u obilježavanju 25 godina od potpisivanja Sporazuma Velikog Petka kojim su prekinuti sukobi unionista (protestanata) i republikanaca (katolika) u toj sastavnici Ujedinjene Kraljevine. Od kasnih 1960-ih godina u Sjevernoj Irskoj živote je izgubilo više od 3600 ljudi.

U srijedu će otići u Republiku Irsku kako bi se povezao s korijenima - Biden je podrijetlom Irac. U postizanju sporazuma posredovala je i američka administracija tadašnjeg predsjednika Billa Clintona koji će tjedan kasnije sa suprugom Hillary stići u Belfast na obilježavanje godišnjice. U pregovorima su sudjelovali irski premijer Bertie Ahern i britanski Tony Blair.

Ponedjeljak nije ponudio ozračje dobrodošlice američkom predsjedniku jer je nekoliko maskiranih osoba napalo u Londonderryju policiju Molotovljevim koktelima i drugim predmetima tijekom parade protiv mirovnog sporazuma. The Belfast Telegraph je u nedjelju objavio da je policija otkrila bombašku zavjeru Nove IRA-e čiji je cilj bio zasjeniti Bidenov posjet.

“Pripadnici Nove IRA-e, paravojne grupe koja se odvojila od Irske republikanske armije, tražili su dijelove za izradu bombe u pograničnom gradu Derryju", rekao je policijski izvor za dnevne novine. Sigurnosne službe u Sjevernoj Irskoj još su krajem ožujka povisile stupanj opasnosti od terorizma sa "znatne" na "ozbiljnu".

U objavi odluke koju je donio MI5 (britanska unutarnja tajna služba), vlada upozorava na "povišen stupanj terorističke aktivnosti", smjerajući na nedavni pokušaj ubojstva policajca. Ova razina opasnosti podrazumijeva postojanje "velike mogućnosti" napada, dodao je u priopćenju britanski ministar za Sjevernu Irsku Chris Heaton-Harris, istaknuvši da javnost treba biti "oprezna", ali ne "bojati se".

Fox News prenosi Bidenovu poruku prosvjednicima “Ne mogu me zaustaviti”, a John Kirby, glasnogovornik Vijeća za nacionalnu sigurnost, dopunio je: “Predsjedniku je više nego ugodno ići na ovo putovanje i vrlo je uzbuđen. Zahvalan je sigurnosnim snagama Sjeverne Irske na obavljenom poslu i nastavku rada na zaštiti svih zajednica".

"Iako mirovni sporazum nije savršen, bolji je od onoga što je bilo, a naša nada sada ide dalje od današnjice, da će stvari postati još bolje i da će sljedećih 25 godina biti još bolje za našu djecu i djecu naše djece”, rekao je za AFP pastor Jack McKee čija je crkva New Life City smještena kod zida na području nekadašnje ničije zemlje koja dijeli dvije zajednice.

Bijela kuća je u najavi istaknula da će jedna od ključnih poruka posjeta biti spremnost Sjedinjenih Država da podrže ogroman ekonomski potencijal Sjeverne Irske na dobrobit svih zajednica. Poruka je ciljana zbog teškoća s kojima se Sjeverna Irska susreće nakon odluke Ujedinjene Kraljevine da napusti članstvo u EU. Sjeverna Irska je, uz Škotsku, bila protiv izlaska. Najveći problem u pregovorima je bilo pitanje očuvanja bezgraničnog aranžmana između dvije Irske a da se istodobno zaštiti jedinstveno tržište EU.

Probritanska Demokratska unionistička stranka (DUP) bojkotira sjevernoirsku vladu više od 13 mjeseci jer se protivi pravilima o trgovini nakon Brexita. Smatraju da ta pravila odvajaju Sjevernu Irsku od Ujedinjene Kraljevine i vode ujedinjenju Irske (irski diplomatski izvori u povjerenju govore da očekuju ujedinjenje najkasnije do kraja ovog desetljeća). Revidirani elementi Sjevernoirskog protokola, nedavno dogovoreni tzv. Windsorski okvir, imaju za cilj ukloniti zabrinutosti unionista, no DUP to zasad odbija: glasao je protiv u britanskom parlamentu, ali protiv su bili i Boris Johnson i Liz Truss, dvoje bivših premijera.

Odmah nakon što je izglasan Brexit u Sjevernoj Irskoj se pojavila zabrinutost da neće pronaći zamjenu za sredstva iz europskih fondova. Bili su u pravu. Fiskalno vijeće Sjeverne Irske objavilo je da će ove godine nedostajati oko 808 milijuna funti za održavanje sustava zbog rasta troškova energije i plaća, oboje potaknuto inflacijom. Vlasti u Belfastu su već ukinule besplatne školske obroke za djecu iz siromašnih porodica: Politico.eu prenosi da je riječ o trećini djece.

DUP je nezadovoljan jer Brexit je ostavio Sjevernu Irsku i dalje podložnom pravilima EU kad je riječ o izvozu dok je roba koja stiže iz Velike Britanije podvrgnuta kontrolama. Povratak granice na otoku bi imao negativne sigurnosne posljedice, ali i ekonomske jer između tri i ćetiri milijarde eura je vrijednost izvoza u Republiku Irsku. Carinska kontrola bi to usporila i smanjila s negativnim utjecajem na zastarjelu strukturu sjevernoirske privrede (60 posto izvoza čine poluproizvodi, mliječni proizvodi, meso i pića).

Irski premijer Leo Varadkar rekao je da planira "intenzivirati" angažman s britanskim premijerom Rishijem Sunakom oko Windsorskog okvira. "Posljednjih nekoliko mjeseci uložili smo veliki trud u postizanje dogovora o revizijama i reformama protokola", rekao je irski premijer dodajući: “To je kulminiralo Windsorskim okvirom, koji je dogovoren tek u proteklih nekoliko tjedana. Za to je bilo potrebno puno angažmana s različitim političkim strankama u Sjevernoj Irskoj, s britanskom vladom, s Europskom komisijom. Jedan od razloga zašto smo to učinili, osim što smo bili sigurni da ćemo izbjeći povratak na tvrdu granicu, bio je taj što bi sporazum potencijalno mogao ponovno otvoriti mogućnost da se DUP vrati u izvršnu vlast.”
