Dana 27. listopada 1991. godine u 20 sati i 51 minutu zrakoplovi Jugoslavenske narodne armije bombardirali su kazetnim bombama mađarski grad Barcs smješten na Dravi, u blizini Virovitice.
Bila je to kulminacija napetih odnosa između Srbije i Mađarske koja je podržavala Sloveniju i Hrvatsku na njihovim putevima ka samostalnosti. Mađarska vlada na čelu s Jozsefom Antallom pozorno je pratila krizu u Jugoslaviji i Domovinski rat, ponajprije zbog geopolitičkih razloga, ali i radi skrbi za mađarsku manjinu u Hrvatskoj koja se našla na udaru velikosrpske agresije, osobito u Baranji i istočnoj Slavoniji te Srijemu. Također brojna se mađarska manjina nalazila u Srbiji, na prostoru Vojvodine, zbog čega je Mađarska morala biti vrlo oprezna u svojoj vanjskoj politici prema jugoslavenskoj krizi.
Uslijed embarga na uvoz oružja, Hrvatska je upravo preko Mađarske uvezla prijeko potrebno oružje u prvim mjesecima rata. Osim na taj način, Mađarska se angažirala i u humanitarnoj pomoći prema Hrvatskoj te je primila više desetaka tisuća izbjeglica. U Baranjskoj županiji čak je organizirala nastavu na hrvatskom jeziku za djecu iz Hrvatske.

Prvi pogranični incidenti između Mađarske i JNA započeli su nakon okupacije hrvatskog dijela Baranje kada je iz njega pucano na automobile na mađarskoj strani. U rujnu 1991. kada su hrvatske snage osvajale karaule uz granicu s Mađarskom jugozrakoplovi su ulazili u mađarski zračni prostor pri čemu je nekoliko njih i oboreno od strane mađarske protuzračne obrane. Nakon proglašenja neovisnosti Hrvatske 8. listopada Mađarska je zauzela stav da se svaki daljnji srpski napad na Republiku Hrvatsku može kvalificirati samo kao agresija.
Protumađarsko raspoloženje u Srbiji pojačano je i činjenicom da Mađarska nije dopustila JNA da preko njezina teritorija izvlači opremu iz Slovenije, a zatim je izdala službeno priopćenje o zabrinutosti zbog položaja mađarske manjine u Hrvatskoj. Nakon najave mađarskog Ministarstva domobranstva kako će na daljnje provokacije odgovoriti oružjem, JNA je bahato na današnji dan 1991. izvršila napad na Barcs. Na sreću bombe su pale na slabo naseljeni rubni dio grada pa nisu izazvale ljudske žrtve, no oštećeni su stambeni objekti, nogometno igralište i mjesno groblje.

Nakon što su vijest prenijeli mediji u Mađarskoj je zavladala zabrinutost. Službena Budimpešta nije oružano odgovorila na ovu provokaciju ne želeći se uvući u rat, no pojačala je broj vojnika na granici sa Srbijom. S druge strane još se više angažirala u pomaganju Hrvatima i mađarskoj manjini od nasrtaja velikosrpske agresije. Činila je to diplomatskim putem, materijalno, ali i neslužbenim kanalima dopremom oružja, što je itekako pomoglo Hrvatskoj u borbi za samostalnost i slobodu.

Dana 27. listopada 1991. godine u 20 sati i 51 minutu zrakoplovi Jugoslavenske narodne armije bombardirali su kazetnim bombama mađarski grad Barcs smješten na Dravi, u blizini Virovitice.
Bila je to kulminacija napetih odnosa između Srbije i Mađarske koja je podržavala Sloveniju i Hrvatsku na njihovim putevima ka samostalnosti. Mađarska vlada na čelu s Jozsefom Antallom pozorno je pratila krizu u Jugoslaviji i Domovinski rat, ponajprije zbog geopolitičkih razloga, ali i radi skrbi za mađarsku manjinu u Hrvatskoj koja se našla na udaru velikosrpske agresije, osobito u Baranji i istočnoj Slavoniji te Srijemu. Također brojna se mađarska manjina nalazila u Srbiji, na prostoru Vojvodine, zbog čega je Mađarska morala biti vrlo oprezna u svojoj vanjskoj politici prema jugoslavenskoj krizi.
Uslijed embarga na uvoz oružja, Hrvatska je upravo preko Mađarske uvezla prijeko potrebno oružje u prvim mjesecima rata. Osim na taj način, Mađarska se angažirala i u humanitarnoj pomoći prema Hrvatskoj te je primila više desetaka tisuća izbjeglica. U Baranjskoj županiji čak je organizirala nastavu na hrvatskom jeziku za djecu iz Hrvatske.

Prvi pogranični incidenti između Mađarske i JNA započeli su nakon okupacije hrvatskog dijela Baranje kada je iz njega pucano na automobile na mađarskoj strani. U rujnu 1991. kada su hrvatske snage osvajale karaule uz granicu s Mađarskom jugozrakoplovi su ulazili u mađarski zračni prostor pri čemu je nekoliko njih i oboreno od strane mađarske protuzračne obrane. Nakon proglašenja neovisnosti Hrvatske 8. listopada Mađarska je zauzela stav da se svaki daljnji srpski napad na Republiku Hrvatsku može kvalificirati samo kao agresija.
Protumađarsko raspoloženje u Srbiji pojačano je i činjenicom da Mađarska nije dopustila JNA da preko njezina teritorija izvlači opremu iz Slovenije, a zatim je izdala službeno priopćenje o zabrinutosti zbog položaja mađarske manjine u Hrvatskoj. Nakon najave mađarskog Ministarstva domobranstva kako će na daljnje provokacije odgovoriti oružjem, JNA je bahato na današnji dan 1991. izvršila napad na Barcs. Na sreću bombe su pale na slabo naseljeni rubni dio grada pa nisu izazvale ljudske žrtve, no oštećeni su stambeni objekti, nogometno igralište i mjesno groblje.

Nakon što su vijest prenijeli mediji u Mađarskoj je zavladala zabrinutost. Službena Budimpešta nije oružano odgovorila na ovu provokaciju ne želeći se uvući u rat, no pojačala je broj vojnika na granici sa Srbijom. S druge strane još se više angažirala u pomaganju Hrvatima i mađarskoj manjini od nasrtaja velikosrpske agresije. Činila je to diplomatskim putem, materijalno, ali i neslužbenim kanalima dopremom oružja, što je itekako pomoglo Hrvatskoj u borbi za samostalnost i slobodu.
