U Hrvatskoj je prošle godine bačeno 286 tisuća tona hrane, što je 71 kilogram po svakom stanovniku, a ni u Europskoj uniji situacija nije bolja, jer mnogi ne razumiju oznake rokova trajanja hrane pa će ih EU mijenjati kako bi smanjio količine jestive i ispravne hrane koja završava u kontejnerima.

Goleme količine hrane završavaju u smeću jer se poistovjećuju dvije različite oznake na hrani - "upotrijebiti do" i "najbolje upotrijebiti do". Stoga se i ide u izmjene oznaka, a cilj je da sve članice Europske unije u idućih osam godina prepolove količine hrane koje završe u smeću, a za Hrvatsku će polazna količina za taj posao koji treba obaviti i do 2030. biti lanjska količina bačene hrane.

Izmjena rokova trajanja

- Pola građana EU-a ne razumije razliku između "upotrijebiti do" i "najbolje upotrijebiti do", a hrvatsko istraživanje je pokazalo da jedna četvrtina ispitanika baca hranu odmah nakon isteka ovog drugog roka, iako je ta hrana još sigurna za jelo. Naime, "najbolje upotrijebiti do" znači da proizvođač tvrdi da je do tog dana proizvod najkvalitetniji, da na primjer zadržava optimalnu hrskavost i boju, a može biti jestiv dugo nakon isteka roka. Upravo zato ove godine pokrećemo izmjene tih oznaka, da poboljšamo njihovo razumijevanje i smanjimo bacanje hrane - kazala je hrvatska europarlamentarka Biljana Borzan, koja je bila izvjestiteljica Europskog parlamenta za strategiju smanjenja bacanja i povećanje doniranja hrane.

Izmjene rokova trajanja su dio velike reforme sustava označavanja hrane u Uniji, koja proizlazi iz strategije "Od polja do stola", za koju je Borzan zadužena. Reforma će uz novo označavanje rokova trajanja hrane donijeti promjene označavanja porijekla i sastava prehrambenih proizvoda.

- Dok god ima gladnih ljudi, a skladišta socijalnih samoposluga i pučkih kuhinja nisu puna, svaki kilogram bačene hrane je previše. Osim toga, za njezinu proizvodnju su potrošeni resursi - rad, gorivo, voda, zemlja, koji su ograničeni i vrijedni. To je nešto što je generaciji naših djedova i baka bilo nezamislivo - smatra Borzan, koja upozorava već nekoliko godina na to da velik dio građana ne razumije oznake rokova trajanja hrane i to je jedan od glavnih razloga ogromnih količina bačene hrane u Hrvatskoj i Europi.

Ogromne uštede

Europska komisija će predložiti novi sustav do kraja 2022., a još nije poznato kako će on izgledati, iako se preliminarno razgovara o nekoliko opcija. Sjeverne i zapadne zemlje EU-a žele pojednostavniti sustav, dok se Italija protivi ukidanju oznake koja označava rok optimalne kvalitete hrane. Takva podjela postoji i oko prijedloga da se proširi lista vrlo dugotrajnih proizvoda poput tjestenine, riže, kave i čaja, koji bi bili potpuno izuzeti od označavanja roka trajanja.

- Razmatra se nekoliko opcija, na primjer da se istovremeno stave obje oznake, tako da "upotrijebiti do" građanima kaže dokad je hrana sigurna za jelo, a "najbolje upotrijebiti do" dokad zadržava optimalnu kvalitetu. Ima i ideja da se potpuno ukine "najbolje upotrijebiti do", da ostane samo rok dokad je hrana sigurna za jelo. U Švedskoj i Norveškoj su eksperimentalno zamijenili tu oznaku s "najbolja kvaliteta do" i "najbolje do, ali upotrebljivo nakon". Ako novi sustav za samo nekoliko postotaka smanji bacanje hrane u EU-u, radit će se o stotinama tisuća tona spašene hrane – ističe Biljana Borzan.

Oko 690 milijuna ljudi diljem svijeta bilo je pogođeno glađu u 2019. godini, a tri milijarde nisu sebi mogle priuštiti zdravu prehranu, dok je više od 930 milijuna tona hrane prodane te godine završilo u otpadu. Rezultati su to istraživanja Programa Ujedinjenih naroda za okoliš (UNEP), provedenog s ciljem smanjenja otpada hrane do 50 posto do 2030. godine.

U Hrvatskoj je prošle godine bačeno 286 tisuća tona hrane, što je 71 kilogram po svakom stanovniku, a ni u Europskoj uniji situacija nije bolja, jer mnogi ne razumiju oznake rokova trajanja hrane pa će ih EU mijenjati kako bi smanjio količine jestive i ispravne hrane koja završava u kontejnerima.

Goleme količine hrane završavaju u smeću jer se poistovjećuju dvije različite oznake na hrani - "upotrijebiti do" i "najbolje upotrijebiti do". Stoga se i ide u izmjene oznaka, a cilj je da sve članice Europske unije u idućih osam godina prepolove količine hrane koje završe u smeću, a za Hrvatsku će polazna količina za taj posao koji treba obaviti i do 2030. biti lanjska količina bačene hrane.

Izmjena rokova trajanja

- Pola građana EU-a ne razumije razliku između "upotrijebiti do" i "najbolje upotrijebiti do", a hrvatsko istraživanje je pokazalo da jedna četvrtina ispitanika baca hranu odmah nakon isteka ovog drugog roka, iako je ta hrana još sigurna za jelo. Naime, "najbolje upotrijebiti do" znači da proizvođač tvrdi da je do tog dana proizvod najkvalitetniji, da na primjer zadržava optimalnu hrskavost i boju, a može biti jestiv dugo nakon isteka roka. Upravo zato ove godine pokrećemo izmjene tih oznaka, da poboljšamo njihovo razumijevanje i smanjimo bacanje hrane - kazala je hrvatska europarlamentarka Biljana Borzan, koja je bila izvjestiteljica Europskog parlamenta za strategiju smanjenja bacanja i povećanje doniranja hrane.

Izmjene rokova trajanja su dio velike reforme sustava označavanja hrane u Uniji, koja proizlazi iz strategije "Od polja do stola", za koju je Borzan zadužena. Reforma će uz novo označavanje rokova trajanja hrane donijeti promjene označavanja porijekla i sastava prehrambenih proizvoda.

- Dok god ima gladnih ljudi, a skladišta socijalnih samoposluga i pučkih kuhinja nisu puna, svaki kilogram bačene hrane je previše. Osim toga, za njezinu proizvodnju su potrošeni resursi - rad, gorivo, voda, zemlja, koji su ograničeni i vrijedni. To je nešto što je generaciji naših djedova i baka bilo nezamislivo - smatra Borzan, koja upozorava već nekoliko godina na to da velik dio građana ne razumije oznake rokova trajanja hrane i to je jedan od glavnih razloga ogromnih količina bačene hrane u Hrvatskoj i Europi.

Ogromne uštede

Europska komisija će predložiti novi sustav do kraja 2022., a još nije poznato kako će on izgledati, iako se preliminarno razgovara o nekoliko opcija. Sjeverne i zapadne zemlje EU-a žele pojednostavniti sustav, dok se Italija protivi ukidanju oznake koja označava rok optimalne kvalitete hrane. Takva podjela postoji i oko prijedloga da se proširi lista vrlo dugotrajnih proizvoda poput tjestenine, riže, kave i čaja, koji bi bili potpuno izuzeti od označavanja roka trajanja.

- Razmatra se nekoliko opcija, na primjer da se istovremeno stave obje oznake, tako da "upotrijebiti do" građanima kaže dokad je hrana sigurna za jelo, a "najbolje upotrijebiti do" dokad zadržava optimalnu kvalitetu. Ima i ideja da se potpuno ukine "najbolje upotrijebiti do", da ostane samo rok dokad je hrana sigurna za jelo. U Švedskoj i Norveškoj su eksperimentalno zamijenili tu oznaku s "najbolja kvaliteta do" i "najbolje do, ali upotrebljivo nakon". Ako novi sustav za samo nekoliko postotaka smanji bacanje hrane u EU-u, radit će se o stotinama tisuća tona spašene hrane – ističe Biljana Borzan.

Oko 690 milijuna ljudi diljem svijeta bilo je pogođeno glađu u 2019. godini, a tri milijarde nisu sebi mogle priuštiti zdravu prehranu, dok je više od 930 milijuna tona hrane prodane te godine završilo u otpadu. Rezultati su to istraživanja Programa Ujedinjenih naroda za okoliš (UNEP), provedenog s ciljem smanjenja otpada hrane do 50 posto do 2030. godine.
