Kad je 15. kolovoza Carla Suarez Navarro obznanila da se iz zdravstvenih razloga povlači s američke turneje, nitko nije mogao ni zamisliti da će taj razlog biti tako opasan. Naime, tek što se US Open počeo zahuktavati, španjolska je tenisačica otkrila da joj je dijagnosticiran Hodgkinov limfom, odnosno rak koji se razvija u limfnom sustavu, i da ju čeka šestomjesečna kemoterapija. Sigurno nije ovako zamišljala proslavu 32. rođendana koji je baš danas...
Uglavnom, Suarez Navarro sada čeka najteži meč u životu. Servis Serene Williams, forhend Karoline Pliškove ili bekhend Simone Halep mačji su kašalj u odnosu na ono što se sada nalazi pred curom s Las Palmasa. Poznata je kao fajterica na terenu i sada će taj duh morati pokazati i u bolničkoj postelji.
Osim što je dobro što je bolest otkrivena u ranoj fazi, kemoterapija (eventualno u kombinaciji s radioterapijom) dovodi do izlječenja u oko 75 posto slučajeva. Nadalje, nadu u pobjedu ulijevaju i iskustva njezinih kolega iz svijeta tenisa koji su također preboljeli Hodgkinov limfom poput Britanca Rossa Hutchinsa, Ruskinje Alise Klejbanove i Amerikanke Victorije Duval. Ne samo što su se oni oporavili, već su se i vratili tenisu. Dakle, dovoljno je razloga za optimizam.
- Kao što sam dala do znanja proteklih tjedana, nisam mogla redovito trenirati na terenu ili u teretani. Tijelo mi više nije moglo podnijeti zahtjeve profesionalnog sporta. Od srpnja nisam odradila trening do kraja. Tražili smo razloge zašto se osjećam loše, prošla sam različite testove kako bih pronašla uzroke i zato sam i otkazala američku turneju. Rezultati su potvrdili da mi je dijagnosticiran Hodgkinov limfom. Liječnici su rekli da se radi o malom, izlječivom limfomu detektiranom u ranoj fazi. Sada mi slijedi šest mjeseci kemoterapije i to mi je trenutno jedini cilj. Sve ostalo pada u drugi plan – napisala je Suarez Navarro u priopćenju za medije.
Čim je Španjolka objavila nesretnu vijest, podrška iz svijeta tenisa i sporta općenito počela joj je pristizati sa svih strana. Sunarodnjakinja Garbine Muguruza posvetila joj je pobjedu na US Openu, a putem Twittera oglasili su se i Novak Đoković, Rafael Nadal, Marin Čilić, Donna Vekić, Juan Martin Del Potro, Stan Wawrinka, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Kim Clijsters, Mary Pierce, košarkaš Pau Gasol, nogometaši Carles Puyol i David de Gea, pilot Formule 1 Carlos Sainz, motociklist Alex Marquez, nogometni klubovi Atletico Madrid i Valencia te mnogi drugi.
Suarez Navarro dobro je poznato ime u svjetskom tenisu već više od desetljeća. Prije četiri godine bila je šesta u WTA poretku, a trenutno je 71. Čak sedam puta igrala je četvrtfinale Grand Slama, osvojila je dva turnira i igrala još devet finala, a poznata je i po prekrasnom jednoručnom bekhendu, što je atipična pojava u ženskom tenisu. Posljednji je nastup imala u veljači ove godine u Dohi.
Inače, prošle je sezone najavila da će joj 2020. godina biti posljednja u karijeri. I eto što se dogodi. Prvo koronavirus, a onda bolest. Sada je najvažnije da Carla pobijedi opaku bolest, pa tek onda može razmišljati o tome hoće li se vratiti na teren i otići u mirovinu po svojim uvjetima, a ne prisilno kao što je to sada slučaj.
- Osjećam se dobro, mirna sam i spremna suočiti se s onim što me čeka. Strpljenje i samopouzdanje vodili su me kroz karijeru, a ovo nije lagan suparnik i doista moram biti u svojem najboljem izdanju – poručuje lavica Carla Suarez Navarro uoči najvažnijeg meča karijere.

Kad je 15. kolovoza Carla Suarez Navarro obznanila da se iz zdravstvenih razloga povlači s američke turneje, nitko nije mogao ni zamisliti da će taj razlog biti tako opasan. Naime, tek što se US Open počeo zahuktavati, španjolska je tenisačica otkrila da joj je dijagnosticiran Hodgkinov limfom, odnosno rak koji se razvija u limfnom sustavu, i da ju čeka šestomjesečna kemoterapija. Sigurno nije ovako zamišljala proslavu 32. rođendana koji je baš danas...
Uglavnom, Suarez Navarro sada čeka najteži meč u životu. Servis Serene Williams, forhend Karoline Pliškove ili bekhend Simone Halep mačji su kašalj u odnosu na ono što se sada nalazi pred curom s Las Palmasa. Poznata je kao fajterica na terenu i sada će taj duh morati pokazati i u bolničkoj postelji.
Osim što je dobro što je bolest otkrivena u ranoj fazi, kemoterapija (eventualno u kombinaciji s radioterapijom) dovodi do izlječenja u oko 75 posto slučajeva. Nadalje, nadu u pobjedu ulijevaju i iskustva njezinih kolega iz svijeta tenisa koji su također preboljeli Hodgkinov limfom poput Britanca Rossa Hutchinsa, Ruskinje Alise Klejbanove i Amerikanke Victorije Duval. Ne samo što su se oni oporavili, već su se i vratili tenisu. Dakle, dovoljno je razloga za optimizam.
- Kao što sam dala do znanja proteklih tjedana, nisam mogla redovito trenirati na terenu ili u teretani. Tijelo mi više nije moglo podnijeti zahtjeve profesionalnog sporta. Od srpnja nisam odradila trening do kraja. Tražili smo razloge zašto se osjećam loše, prošla sam različite testove kako bih pronašla uzroke i zato sam i otkazala američku turneju. Rezultati su potvrdili da mi je dijagnosticiran Hodgkinov limfom. Liječnici su rekli da se radi o malom, izlječivom limfomu detektiranom u ranoj fazi. Sada mi slijedi šest mjeseci kemoterapije i to mi je trenutno jedini cilj. Sve ostalo pada u drugi plan – napisala je Suarez Navarro u priopćenju za medije.
Čim je Španjolka objavila nesretnu vijest, podrška iz svijeta tenisa i sporta općenito počela joj je pristizati sa svih strana. Sunarodnjakinja Garbine Muguruza posvetila joj je pobjedu na US Openu, a putem Twittera oglasili su se i Novak Đoković, Rafael Nadal, Marin Čilić, Donna Vekić, Juan Martin Del Potro, Stan Wawrinka, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Kim Clijsters, Mary Pierce, košarkaš Pau Gasol, nogometaši Carles Puyol i David de Gea, pilot Formule 1 Carlos Sainz, motociklist Alex Marquez, nogometni klubovi Atletico Madrid i Valencia te mnogi drugi.
Suarez Navarro dobro je poznato ime u svjetskom tenisu već više od desetljeća. Prije četiri godine bila je šesta u WTA poretku, a trenutno je 71. Čak sedam puta igrala je četvrtfinale Grand Slama, osvojila je dva turnira i igrala još devet finala, a poznata je i po prekrasnom jednoručnom bekhendu, što je atipična pojava u ženskom tenisu. Posljednji je nastup imala u veljači ove godine u Dohi.
Inače, prošle je sezone najavila da će joj 2020. godina biti posljednja u karijeri. I eto što se dogodi. Prvo koronavirus, a onda bolest. Sada je najvažnije da Carla pobijedi opaku bolest, pa tek onda može razmišljati o tome hoće li se vratiti na teren i otići u mirovinu po svojim uvjetima, a ne prisilno kao što je to sada slučaj.
- Osjećam se dobro, mirna sam i spremna suočiti se s onim što me čeka. Strpljenje i samopouzdanje vodili su me kroz karijeru, a ovo nije lagan suparnik i doista moram biti u svojem najboljem izdanju – poručuje lavica Carla Suarez Navarro uoči najvažnijeg meča karijere.
