"Poželite dobrodošlicu novoj mladenki." – "Pozivnica za pakao" (2022.)

Sukus modernog horora već nekoliko godina čine socijalno relevantni filmovi s rasnim/klasnim implikacijama i čine žanr "uzvišenim". U njima imućni bijelci obično namame protagoniste (tamnopute i/li nižeg statusa) na svoje imanje i isprva se sve čini okej, ali njihovi zlokobni i perverzni motivi polako ključaju ispod naizgled mirne površine.

"Bježi!" je ogledni primjer takve vrste filma i iznjedrio je niz nastavljača poetike kao što je "Antebellum". Ipak, ne tipuju svi horori s društvenim podtekstom biti preozbiljnog "elevated" tipa, neki (se) žele i zabaviti, poput "Spremni ili ne".

Novi film strave "Pozivnica za pakao" ("The Invitation") negdje je između ova dva hororska pola, bliži potonjem. "Get Out" definitivno je ostvario utjecaj na scenarista Blaira Butlera i redateljicu Jessicu M. Thompson, "Ready Or Not" pogotovo, no autori su gledali i "Eyes Wide Shut" i "Crimson Peak".

Kad u nekom golemom zdanju vidimo bijeg mlade žene (Virág Bárány) iz zatočeništva koji okončava njezinim suicidom, jasno je da se film otvara poput mračnog gotičkog horora a la "Crimson Peak". "Sve završava ovdje sa mnom", kaže ona i objesi se.

Daleko od staromodne gotike, u modernom New Yorku, upoznajemo protagonisticu miješane rase Evie, u tumačenju sve popularnije Nathalie Emmanuel, poznate iz serijala "Brzi i žestoki", "Igre prijestolja", "Vojske lopova", "Holly je prespavala" i nova "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod".

Evie je umjetnica keramike, prisiljena uzdržavati se kao konobarica i na nekom "fancy" događaju posluživati goveđi "carpaccio" bogatim bijelim uzvanicima dok je oni gledaju svisoka. Sama nakon nedavne majčine smrti, bez bliske osobe, ne računajući prijateljicu (Courtney Taylor), ona čezne za pripadnosti obitelji.

Zato prihvaća poziv novootkrivenog bijelog rođaka Olivera (Hugh Skinner; "Mamma Mia 2"), koji joj je "jedina obitelj", da dođe na englesko imanje upoznati rodbinu i prisustvovati "vjenčanju stoljeća". Odmah nakon dolaska Evie se zakači s glavnim batlerom (Sean Pertwee; "Vojnik") kad on bude otresit prema sluškinjama, nebijelima poput nje same, ali i privuče pažnju gospodara imanja, lorda Waltera (Thomas Doherty), čijem je šarmu teško odoljeti.

Sve isprva izgleda kao san snova s poljupcima u pozadini vatrometa, no zašto onda Evie sanja košmar s nedavno preminulom bivšom gospodaricom kuće u glavnoj ulozi, onom koja se objesila na početku filma? Zašto je sluškinja (Carol Ann Crawford) upozorava da se vrati u svoju sobu jer "po mraku nije sigurno"?

I zašto joj se u gluho doba noći priviđaju neke tamne sablasti s kandžama iza bijelih zavjesa? "Osjećam da ludim", strahuje Evie. Nešto se tu čudno događa, posebice kad vidimo kako, u seriji prvoloptaških "bu" scena, neka sjenovita prikaza napada sluškinje koje kao da su namjerno žrtvovane.

Pohvalno je da redateljica navodi publiku na pogrešan trag i prolongira misterij gotovo do prve (i bolje) polovine filma. Jesu li u pitanju duhovi iz prošlih vremena? Ukleta kuća? Možda neki kult? Nagovještaj je dan u najboljoj sceni kad seksi djeveruše Viktoria i Lucy (Stephanie Corneliussen, Alana Boden) odvedu Evie na spa i pedikuru prije vjenčanja.

Rječkanje Viktorije i Evie montažno je ispresijecano sređivanjem noktiju i zvuk grickalice potencira očekivanja da će krv poteći iz nekog prsta. Ipak, kad "twist" bude otkriven tijekom košmarno groteskne večere pod maskama, pomalo razočaravajući preokret trasira ostatak filma, koji od žanrovske generičnosti spašava podtekst o statusu i povlasticama. Pozivnica za pakao vam je uručena. Na vama je da je (ne) prihvatite.

"Poželite dobrodošlicu novoj mladenki." – "Pozivnica za pakao" (2022.)

Sukus modernog horora već nekoliko godina čine socijalno relevantni filmovi s rasnim/klasnim implikacijama i čine žanr "uzvišenim". U njima imućni bijelci obično namame protagoniste (tamnopute i/li nižeg statusa) na svoje imanje i isprva se sve čini okej, ali njihovi zlokobni i perverzni motivi polako ključaju ispod naizgled mirne površine.

"Bježi!" je ogledni primjer takve vrste filma i iznjedrio je niz nastavljača poetike kao što je "Antebellum". Ipak, ne tipuju svi horori s društvenim podtekstom biti preozbiljnog "elevated" tipa, neki (se) žele i zabaviti, poput "Spremni ili ne".

Novi film strave "Pozivnica za pakao" ("The Invitation") negdje je između ova dva hororska pola, bliži potonjem. "Get Out" definitivno je ostvario utjecaj na scenarista Blaira Butlera i redateljicu Jessicu M. Thompson, "Ready Or Not" pogotovo, no autori su gledali i "Eyes Wide Shut" i "Crimson Peak".

Kad u nekom golemom zdanju vidimo bijeg mlade žene (Virág Bárány) iz zatočeništva koji okončava njezinim suicidom, jasno je da se film otvara poput mračnog gotičkog horora a la "Crimson Peak". "Sve završava ovdje sa mnom", kaže ona i objesi se.

Daleko od staromodne gotike, u modernom New Yorku, upoznajemo protagonisticu miješane rase Evie, u tumačenju sve popularnije Nathalie Emmanuel, poznate iz serijala "Brzi i žestoki", "Igre prijestolja", "Vojske lopova", "Holly je prespavala" i nova "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod".

Evie je umjetnica keramike, prisiljena uzdržavati se kao konobarica i na nekom "fancy" događaju posluživati goveđi "carpaccio" bogatim bijelim uzvanicima dok je oni gledaju svisoka. Sama nakon nedavne majčine smrti, bez bliske osobe, ne računajući prijateljicu (Courtney Taylor), ona čezne za pripadnosti obitelji.

Zato prihvaća poziv novootkrivenog bijelog rođaka Olivera (Hugh Skinner; "Mamma Mia 2"), koji joj je "jedina obitelj", da dođe na englesko imanje upoznati rodbinu i prisustvovati "vjenčanju stoljeća". Odmah nakon dolaska Evie se zakači s glavnim batlerom (Sean Pertwee; "Vojnik") kad on bude otresit prema sluškinjama, nebijelima poput nje same, ali i privuče pažnju gospodara imanja, lorda Waltera (Thomas Doherty), čijem je šarmu teško odoljeti.

Sve isprva izgleda kao san snova s poljupcima u pozadini vatrometa, no zašto onda Evie sanja košmar s nedavno preminulom bivšom gospodaricom kuće u glavnoj ulozi, onom koja se objesila na početku filma? Zašto je sluškinja (Carol Ann Crawford) upozorava da se vrati u svoju sobu jer "po mraku nije sigurno"?

I zašto joj se u gluho doba noći priviđaju neke tamne sablasti s kandžama iza bijelih zavjesa? "Osjećam da ludim", strahuje Evie. Nešto se tu čudno događa, posebice kad vidimo kako, u seriji prvoloptaških "bu" scena, neka sjenovita prikaza napada sluškinje koje kao da su namjerno žrtvovane.

Pohvalno je da redateljica navodi publiku na pogrešan trag i prolongira misterij gotovo do prve (i bolje) polovine filma. Jesu li u pitanju duhovi iz prošlih vremena? Ukleta kuća? Možda neki kult? Nagovještaj je dan u najboljoj sceni kad seksi djeveruše Viktoria i Lucy (Stephanie Corneliussen, Alana Boden) odvedu Evie na spa i pedikuru prije vjenčanja.

Rječkanje Viktorije i Evie montažno je ispresijecano sređivanjem noktiju i zvuk grickalice potencira očekivanja da će krv poteći iz nekog prsta. Ipak, kad "twist" bude otkriven tijekom košmarno groteskne večere pod maskama, pomalo razočaravajući preokret trasira ostatak filma, koji od žanrovske generičnosti spašava podtekst o statusu i povlasticama. Pozivnica za pakao vam je uručena. Na vama je da je (ne) prihvatite.
