Ponovni povratak filmskih devedesetih sugerira i još jedan film s redovnog kinorepertoara – "Njezinih pet minuta" ili "Breaking News In Yuba County". "Njezinih pet minuta" je nastao križanjem crne komedije i krvavocrvenog kriminalističkog trilera. Ovakva križanja u devedesetima su iznjedrila novi žanr crno-i-crveno-humornog krimića ili trilera, u romanima najsavršenije ispisan britkim rukopisom pisca Elmorea Leonarda.

Ekranizacije Leonardovih romana poput "Uhvatite maloga", "Jackie Brown" i "Daleko od očiju" obilježile su žanr na kojem su doktorirali Quentin Tarantino ("Pakleni šund") i braća Coen ("Fargo"), inspiriravši špalir sljedbenika od devedesetih do danas. Špaliru se pridružio i Tate Taylor, redatelj neujednačenog opusa sastavljenog od oskarovske drame "Tajni život kućnih pomoćnica", trilera "Djevojka u vlaku", horora "Ma" i akcića "Ava".

"Breaking News In Yuba County" pristaje Taylorovoj filmografiji kao jedan prilično neravnomjeran, mada gledljiv i umjereno zabavan filmić, nikad dosadan, a uvijek neozbiljan i samosvjestan do autoparodije žanra, zbog čega mu se može lakše progledati kroz prste naspram "Fatale".

Tayloru treba dati kredit što je podigao iz pepela kompaniju American International Pictures, zaslužnu za mnoge kultne horore pedesetih i "blaxploitation" filmove sedamdesetih, kao i to da je angažirao ansambl poznatih faca – od oskarovke Allison Janney, preko Mile Kunis, Juliette Lewis, Awkwafine, Regine Hall i Ellen Barkin, do Matthewa Modinea, Cliftona Collinsa Jr-a, Wande Sykes i Jimmija Simpsona.

Ipak, njegova revitalizacija nije "tarantinovskog" tipa u kontekstu nekadašnjeg žanra ("Jackie Brown"), a glumci se bore za svojih pet minuta u kadru prenapučenom likovima/podzapletima i neki jedva da se, uz najbolju volju, umiju registrirati kao likovi koje tumače, poput Kunis i Barkin.

Priče likova su toliko apsurdistički i koincidentno isprepletene da ih možda ni prsti sudbine ne bi tako ispisali. No, "Njezinih pet minuta" ne prikriva da je djelo scenaristice Amande Idoko u kojem se eksplicitno navodi "luda slučajnost", nipošto istinita životna priča, a Taylor nekako uspijeva (za)držati konce osnovne naracije u rukama koja počinje s najpunokrvnijim likom filma, sredovječnom očajnom kućanicom Sue Buttons (Janney) iz okruga Yuba.

Srećemo je kako dolazi predići tortu za rođendan i ponavlja naglas "self help" afirmacije ("Bitna si, jaka, važna, dostatna..."), ali koliko je nevažna, pokazuje slastica – njezino je ime krivo napisano, odnosno posljednje slovo nije dovršeno pa ispada "Suc" (kao "sucker"/luzerica), a ne Sue.

Sue je željna pažnje, nitko je ne doživljava, niti pamti kad joj je rođendan, čak i njezin suprug, bankar Karl (Modine), koji se odlazi naći s ljubavnicom (Bridget Everett) u sobi jeftinog hotelčića umjesto da izvede ženu na večeru. Od Karla, pak, lokalni gangsteri Raj (Collins Jr.) i Mina (Awkwafina) traže da opere tri milijuna dolara, a bili su u lopovskoj shemi s njegovim bratom (Simpson) koji nakon izlaska iz zatvora pokušava voditi normalan život u Ritinom (Sykes) dućanu elektronike.

Kad Sue bane u hotelsku sobu i zatekne Karla u nepriličnom položaju, ovaj doživi srčani udar i ona otjera ljubavnicu, zakopa muža s torbom punom novca i odluči se pretvarati da je nestao/otet, kako bi izazvala simpatiju okoline i pridobila medijsku pažnju TV zvijezde Glorije Michaels (Lewis), radije nego sestre novinarke (Kunis).

U njezinu verziju događaja sumnja detektivka (Hall), Karlov brat je uvjeren da su ga oteli Raj i Mina, zbog čega se daje u pljačku da namakne otkupninu i pridružuje mu se Rita kako bi se "osjetila živom", a u priču se vraća i ljubavnica podjednako željna slave i novca kao Sue. Dakle, teška zbrka s nesimpatičnim likovima, dvostrukim i trostrukim prevarama, mračnim tajnama i gomilanjem leševa, nešto kao "Tko je utopio Monu?" na izmaku devedesetih.

Taylor je zasigurno vrtio taj film u glavi, kao i superiorna "Tri plakata izvan grada", dok se trudio stvari privesti suludom kraju na nepredvidljiv način i uputiti kritiku na račun medijske manipulacije i opsesije televizijskom slavom, utjelovljenih u liku Sue koja glumi kao da je pred kamerama čak i kad nisu upaljene, jedva čekajući da završi na vijestima. Veći dio likova neće dočekati živi odjavnu špicu. Pitanje je kojim će redom i kako stradavati. Nećemo odati red, ali možemo dati odgovor na pitanje "kako". Brutalno.

Ponovni povratak filmskih devedesetih sugerira i još jedan film s redovnog kinorepertoara – "Njezinih pet minuta" ili "Breaking News In Yuba County". "Njezinih pet minuta" je nastao križanjem crne komedije i krvavocrvenog kriminalističkog trilera. Ovakva križanja u devedesetima su iznjedrila novi žanr crno-i-crveno-humornog krimića ili trilera, u romanima najsavršenije ispisan britkim rukopisom pisca Elmorea Leonarda.

Ekranizacije Leonardovih romana poput "Uhvatite maloga", "Jackie Brown" i "Daleko od očiju" obilježile su žanr na kojem su doktorirali Quentin Tarantino ("Pakleni šund") i braća Coen ("Fargo"), inspiriravši špalir sljedbenika od devedesetih do danas. Špaliru se pridružio i Tate Taylor, redatelj neujednačenog opusa sastavljenog od oskarovske drame "Tajni život kućnih pomoćnica", trilera "Djevojka u vlaku", horora "Ma" i akcića "Ava".

"Breaking News In Yuba County" pristaje Taylorovoj filmografiji kao jedan prilično neravnomjeran, mada gledljiv i umjereno zabavan filmić, nikad dosadan, a uvijek neozbiljan i samosvjestan do autoparodije žanra, zbog čega mu se može lakše progledati kroz prste naspram "Fatale".

Tayloru treba dati kredit što je podigao iz pepela kompaniju American International Pictures, zaslužnu za mnoge kultne horore pedesetih i "blaxploitation" filmove sedamdesetih, kao i to da je angažirao ansambl poznatih faca – od oskarovke Allison Janney, preko Mile Kunis, Juliette Lewis, Awkwafine, Regine Hall i Ellen Barkin, do Matthewa Modinea, Cliftona Collinsa Jr-a, Wande Sykes i Jimmija Simpsona.

Ipak, njegova revitalizacija nije "tarantinovskog" tipa u kontekstu nekadašnjeg žanra ("Jackie Brown"), a glumci se bore za svojih pet minuta u kadru prenapučenom likovima/podzapletima i neki jedva da se, uz najbolju volju, umiju registrirati kao likovi koje tumače, poput Kunis i Barkin.

Priče likova su toliko apsurdistički i koincidentno isprepletene da ih možda ni prsti sudbine ne bi tako ispisali. No, "Njezinih pet minuta" ne prikriva da je djelo scenaristice Amande Idoko u kojem se eksplicitno navodi "luda slučajnost", nipošto istinita životna priča, a Taylor nekako uspijeva (za)držati konce osnovne naracije u rukama koja počinje s najpunokrvnijim likom filma, sredovječnom očajnom kućanicom Sue Buttons (Janney) iz okruga Yuba.

Srećemo je kako dolazi predići tortu za rođendan i ponavlja naglas "self help" afirmacije ("Bitna si, jaka, važna, dostatna..."), ali koliko je nevažna, pokazuje slastica – njezino je ime krivo napisano, odnosno posljednje slovo nije dovršeno pa ispada "Suc" (kao "sucker"/luzerica), a ne Sue.

Sue je željna pažnje, nitko je ne doživljava, niti pamti kad joj je rođendan, čak i njezin suprug, bankar Karl (Modine), koji se odlazi naći s ljubavnicom (Bridget Everett) u sobi jeftinog hotelčića umjesto da izvede ženu na večeru. Od Karla, pak, lokalni gangsteri Raj (Collins Jr.) i Mina (Awkwafina) traže da opere tri milijuna dolara, a bili su u lopovskoj shemi s njegovim bratom (Simpson) koji nakon izlaska iz zatvora pokušava voditi normalan život u Ritinom (Sykes) dućanu elektronike.

Kad Sue bane u hotelsku sobu i zatekne Karla u nepriličnom položaju, ovaj doživi srčani udar i ona otjera ljubavnicu, zakopa muža s torbom punom novca i odluči se pretvarati da je nestao/otet, kako bi izazvala simpatiju okoline i pridobila medijsku pažnju TV zvijezde Glorije Michaels (Lewis), radije nego sestre novinarke (Kunis).

U njezinu verziju događaja sumnja detektivka (Hall), Karlov brat je uvjeren da su ga oteli Raj i Mina, zbog čega se daje u pljačku da namakne otkupninu i pridružuje mu se Rita kako bi se "osjetila živom", a u priču se vraća i ljubavnica podjednako željna slave i novca kao Sue. Dakle, teška zbrka s nesimpatičnim likovima, dvostrukim i trostrukim prevarama, mračnim tajnama i gomilanjem leševa, nešto kao "Tko je utopio Monu?" na izmaku devedesetih.

Taylor je zasigurno vrtio taj film u glavi, kao i superiorna "Tri plakata izvan grada", dok se trudio stvari privesti suludom kraju na nepredvidljiv način i uputiti kritiku na račun medijske manipulacije i opsesije televizijskom slavom, utjelovljenih u liku Sue koja glumi kao da je pred kamerama čak i kad nisu upaljene, jedva čekajući da završi na vijestima. Veći dio likova neće dočekati živi odjavnu špicu. Pitanje je kojim će redom i kako stradavati. Nećemo odati red, ali možemo dati odgovor na pitanje "kako". Brutalno.
